How To Mute a 7911/7912

Unanswered Question

Hello,

We've recently installed CME 4.0 on a 3845. Everything's working well. We have a number of 7961G phones and some 7911s. It's easy enough to mute a 7961 (there's a button right there), but how do you mute a 7911?

There's a monitor button, but then you have to put it on speaker.

So, is there any way to simply mute a 7911 phone? It would seem like a pretty big oversight if there wasn't a way to do this.

Thanks,

Dave

I have this problem too.

7911G and 7912G does not include hands-free speakerphone. The Cisco IP Phone 7911G supports monitor (one-way audio through the chassis speaker). So there is no need for mute as this is only one way speaker, you can listen but you cannot be heard!

That seems weird. You still might want to mute a call if you just didn't want to be heard -- even while the handset was in your hand. Are you sure about this?

Thanks,

Dave

I don't want to mute a speaker phone conversation, I want to mute a normal call. i.e.: I pick up the phone, dial a conf #, or another phone #, and once the call is in progress, I want to mute the call.

If muting is not possible, then this *is* indeed a major oversight.

Hi,

Using the Monitor softkey is the only option to 'mute' a call on 7911 as discussed above.

Yeah, I agree, however, this is not an option once the call is in progress. There's no soft key "monitor" once the call is placed and in progress.
