Hi there,

Appreciate it if someone could tell me if SA-VAM2+ is mandatory with 7206VXR NPE-G1?

Any big difference in the performance between a 7206VXR NPE-G1 with SA-VAM2+ and a 7206VXR NPE-G1 with IPSec IOS only?

Thank you!

The VAM is not mandatory with the 7206VXR. I have run IPSec tunnels on a 7206VXR with no VAM and it worked ok. This 7206 ran only a small number of tunnels and not a lot else. The function of the VAM is to perform tasks related to IPSec and/or compression which would be processor intensive and free up resources on the processor. As the number of tunnels increases (or as other processing load increases) it becomes more advisable to have the VAM.

I do not have any good measurements of the performance difference with and without the VAM.

So I would say that the VAM is desirable but not mandatory.
