Recently we had connectivity problem we with the new 12.3 software and it was related to BGP with our BGP-peer "xxxx" (serial 0/0) . When now running on 12.3 we had to add a new Class-C static route.

When running on 12.2 we had two subnetted static routes

ip route 217.72.231.0 255.255.255.240 217.72.231.49

ip route 217.72.231.16 255.255.255.240 217.72.231.49

When running now on 12.3 we had to add the complete class-C static route to get this network advertised with BGP to our peer "xxxxx" (serial 0/0)

ip route 217.72.231.0 255.255.255.0 217.72.231.49

Can someone tell me the reason why BGP is not "accepting" the subnetted routes and only the complete class-C network in 12.3?

Thanks,

Kurt

Hello Kurt,

Is BGP synchronization enabled?

You can see it by issuing: "show ip protocols | inc bgp | synch".

When synchronization is enabled the route ( in it's exact form ) must be prestent in the IGP routing table for BGP to advertise it to a neighbor.

Synchronization is disabled by defeault since 12.2(8)T.
