Unity 4.2(1) schema backward compatible with earlier versions?

Customer has existing 4.1 unity servers serveral child domains in the same AD forest.

During a new install of 4.2(1) the permissions wizard cannot run due to "schema version too old" error in PWDiag log.

Can the new schema update safely be run without affecting existing servers? Any issues with running 4.1 and 4.2 in the same AD forest?

Thanks,

Scott

Hey Scott -

We were running version 4.0(5) in production when we applied the 4.2 schema updates. No problem with doing this. The schema extensions account for new/future functionality but does not impact current Unity functionality. 4.1 and 4.2 Unity servers can run together in the same AD forest. There is a caveat with digital networking and discontinued support of Exchange 5.5 - "Beginning with Cisco Unity 4.2(1), we no longer support using Exchange 5.5 as a message store for Cisco Unity voice messages or as a partner Exchange server. If you are using Digital Networking to connect a Cisco Unity 4.2(1) server with a server running an earlier version of Cisco Unity, in order for Digital Networking to continue to work for all Cisco Unity servers, you must upgrade or change the partner Exchange server for each Cisco Unity server to an Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2000 server.". Here is the Cisco link that discusses - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_device_support_table09186a0080531ba9.html#wp72734

In a nutshell, the latest schema extensions are backwards compatible with older versions of unity.
