Discover an WLC with an AP with static ip-address

Starting from this note in the "Configuring Hybrid REAP" :

If the access point has been assigned a static IP address, it can discover a controller through any of the LWAPP discovery process methods except DHCP option 43. If the access point cannot discover a controller through Layer 3 broadcast or OTAP, Cisco recommends DNS resolution. With DNS, any access point with a static IP address that knows of a DNS server can find at least one controller.

I don't fount where configure the ip address of the DNS server.

Thanks for any help.

Giovanni

Hi Giovanni,

There is no configuration on controller to define DNS server ip address. You have to configure your DHCP server to return DNS domain name and DNS server ip address.

The AP will attempt to resolve the DNS name ?CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.localdomain?. When the AP is able to resolve this name to one or more IP address, the AP sends a unicast LWAPP Discovery Message to the resolved IP address.

You have to configure your DHCP server with option 6 to return DNS server IP address and option 15 to return domain name.

Then configure your DNS server which can resolve "CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER" which will return WLC IP address.
