Limit or Eliminate TCP retransmit

Is it possible to limit tcp retransmits or somehow eliminate them?

We would like to use udp but we are using the translate feature to convert an ip address/port to a x.25 address. The fep (ip side) sends traffic every 2 seconds so we don't really need the retransmits but we can't get rid of tcp either. Any thoughts suggestions?

you may try the following command : "tcp increase-xmit-timer-value value" to increase the tcp retransmit timer value.

I don't see that option available. Have you used that command before? Is there a particular version/router that this command can be made in?
