Hi,

Has anybody faced the following bug in the network on GSR? Was there any impact on the service?

%TAGCON-3-LCLTAG_ALLOC: Cannot allocate local tag

Thanks,

Silju

Hi, This is what Cisco says on the same...

Though personally I haven't seen this...

"An attempt to allocate a local (incoming) tag has failed. This condition should occur only when the system has allocated all available local tags."

Recommended Action: The number of tags available for allocation can be changed by entering the tag-switching tag-range configuration command.

But by default maximum number of tags is already allocated by GSR. We have received the reply from TAC and it is related to enabling VPLS service. This bug is fixed in the next release. At present if you enable VPLS service on 12.0(32)SY you will hit this bug. And this is the only IOS which supports STM16 RPR on SPA.

Rgds,

Silju

Hi Silju,

Do you have the BUG id for this issue?

Thanks a lot.

Hello,

so you got the following message on the cli:

GSR# %TAGCON-3-LCLTAG_ALLOC: Cannot allocate local tag

Well, we can try to look for this error message on CCO to understand the meaning of the sentence written above.

For example using the error decoder tool :

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Errordecoder/index.cgi?action=search&index=all&locale=en&query=%25TAGCON-3-LCLTAG_ALLOC&counter=0&paging=5&links=reference&sa=Submit

you get:

######################################

. %TAGCON-3-LCLTAG_ALLOC: Cannot allocate local tag

An attempt to allocate a local (incoming) tag has failed. This condition should occur only when the system has allocated all available local tags.

Recommended Action: The number of tags available for allocation can be changed by entering the tag-switching tag-range configuration command. Consult with your Cisco technical service representative to determine whether you should use this command to increase the number of available tags.

Related documents- No specific documents apply to this error message.

in my own experience this is a very helpful advice for the network engineer in a MPLS environment: the router is telling you that for some reasons it cannot allocate a local tag for a FIB that has outgoing labels associated with it.

But of course i may be wrong and you are facing a very specific problem.

the impact:

it is huge you cannot have any form of connectivity on advanced mpls services like l2 - l3 vpn that take advantage from the mpls label stack concept (= multiple mpls labels on the same packet/PDU) because the mpls labels are not correctly imposed by the GSR node

hope to help

giuslar

Hi Giuslar,

The bug you mentioned is already listed in the CCO and consequences will be high if you hit this bug. Maximum number of labels is already allocated by GSR by default.

Thanks,

Silju
