Router upgrade necessary to run IOS

IM-Design

Greetings,

I have a 1841 series router with the following IOS on it:

Cisco IOS Software, 1841 Software (C1841-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(3d)

From what I can tell, this IOS version requires DRAM (128)/ Min Flash (32)

Thr router has the following memory configuration:

Cisco 1841 (revision 6.0) with 237568K/24576K bytes of memory.

Processor board ID FCZ102220H2

2 FastEthernet interfaces

2 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Modules

DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity disabled.

191K bytes of NVRAM.

62720K bytes of ATA CompactFlash (Read/Write)

I would like to move to another IOS image that appears to require more memory/flash.

The IOS that I want to load is:

c1841-advipservicesk9-mz.12.4-9.T1.bin

This IOS requires memory of DRAM (192)/Min Flash (64)

Could anyone explain:

-Would the new image successfully load onto the existing router?

-Will the router be able to be memory upgraded? Im assuming the Flash could be changed from a 32MB to a 64MB or 1228MB card.

-What is the best place to get flash upgrades?

TIA

Charlie

Charlie,

Yes, the new IOS can be loaded on the router. The line that says "Cisco 1841 (revision 6.0) with 237568K/24576K bytes of memory" indicates the amount of DRAM in the system. You add the 2 number together to get the total - in this case 262144 or 256MB of memory. This meets the requirement of 192. The line that says "62720K bytes of ATA CompactFlash (Read/Write)" indicates that the system has 64MB of flash memory. This also meets the requirement. You can certainly upgrade the flash, but it is not necessary in this case.

Hope this helps. If so, please rate the post.
