Generally "sh version" should show you the system serial number. Which router or switch you are having?

In addition to Ankur's reply if you are checking the same in router i dont think you will be able to find out the serial number using show version command.

Hi,

In old routers like the 2600 series the sh version command shows the processor ID. To see the serial number you need physical access to the device.


In the new generation ISR routers you have the command show inventory which will display the serial number of the router and all the modules.
