I have been getting reports from users of some fax machines (mostly on ATAs, but also on VG248s) that they are getting a report of "poor line condition" on their fax machine which causes the fax to a) not complete the send b) not go through at all.

has anyone seen this and know of any possible causes and/or solutions?

i have tested faxes to and from the machines (usually only one page) but they have come through.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Scott,

Ask your telco if they have an automated fax testing facility. In Oz we had an online diagnostics test. You fax the number and it faxes you back a report of how well your fax is setup.

Most fax problems I've had are volume level related, either on the trunk to the PSTN, the ATA port or the fax itself.

Other possible causes could be if you were routing the fax across an IP network and compressing it.

Cheers,

Tim.
