Adding devices in RME 3.5 didn't require the model to be selected.

Why does 4.0 require it. Isn't it a function of SNMP to get that info?

You can use dcrcli to do bulk imports of devices into DCR from the command line.

See the NMSROOT/ImportFiles/device_list.txt for a sample of the new CSV version 3 format. Yes, there is a sysObjectID field. It is mandantory that you fill this field in, but you can use 0.0 to set it to UNKNOWN.

Yes, all applications will update DCR once they successfully communicate with a device.

You do not need to select a device type in DCR. It is perfectly acceptable to leave this as unknown. The applications will handle setting the correct type.

There is a change in the functionality.

In LMS 2.2, devices were added into RME 3.5, and RME 3.5 had the capability to manage these devices via SNMP.

Starting with LMS 2.5, devices are no longer added directly into RME. They are added into the Common Devices Repository (DCR). The DCR is simply a repository. It does not manage devices. It simply contains the information that the rest of the LMS products use to communicate with devices.

Can I still import devices to Common Services in a .CSV or .DIF formated file using a command similar to crmimport and then have RME pick the devices up automatically out of the DCR.

If so, is there a field in the .csv or .dif file that can have the model information added?

Also, once added and managed by RME. Can RME go out, SNMPWALK the device, get the correct information then update the appopriate fields in the DCR?

This seems to leave a lot of room for human error by not selecting the correct model when manually adding the device to Common Services.

To answer your question

You can still enter the devices without specifying the device type. LMS will figure it out.
