What is maximum console cable distance between a Router/Switch & PC if i make it manually? bcoz in my remote center there is no laptop with the engineer, so when ever he wanted to check the router/switch via console he need 2 shift the pc near the router/switch, so instead i told him 2 make it manually done & it works fine, but i also wanted to know what is the limited allowed distance.

Hi Anand,
What i generally do in these scenarios is that i connect the console serial port to any RJ-45 jack (used for ur n/w connectivity near ur PC) and extend it to the switch/router console with the existing cat cable.
And i have used it successfully over 60 meters

Hi,
Console cables follow the RS-232 spec, so depending on speed you have the following:
speed m ft
9600 30 100
19200 15 50
38400 7.5 25
57600 5 16
115200 2.5 8

Hi,
Despite what the recommended is, it is still possible for it to work over longer distances. I've managed to get one working over a distance of ~120M, from the 4th floor down to the basement, without any issues.
