Core issue
While trying to authenticate users with Cisco Secure Access Control Server (ACS) for Windows version 3.3, authentication may fail with the Authentication Failed: Proxy failure error message.
The error occurs due to incorrect configuration of the Proxy Distribution Table on the Network Configuration tab of the Cisco Secure ACS. The Proxy Distribution Table is used to enable domain stripping and configure proxy capabilities.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, perform these steps:
- On Cisco Secure ACS, go to Network Configuration > Proxy Distribution Table.
- Click on the (Default) character string in the Proxy Distribution Table.
- Select the AAA server name from the AAA Servers column, and move it to the Forward To column so it points to itself.
- Click Submit, and press the Restart button.
