How to upgrade the ROMmon image on a Catalyst 6000 series switch with Supervisor Engine 2

Resolution

To support new software versions and new hardware like the ATA FlashDisk device, a ROMmon (boot ROM) upgrade may be required on Supervisor Engine 2.

To resolve this issue, perform these steps:

1. Verify the current ROMmon version by issuing the show version command.   
2. Check the System Bootstrap Version or the Fw version on Supervisor Engine 2. 

   The show module command also displays the Fw version, as shown in this example:

3. There are two different procedures for upgrading the ROMmon (boot ROM) on Supervisor Engine 2. 

   These procedures are determined by checking the ROMmon version:

      
   • If your Supervisor Engine 2 ROMmon version is 6.1(3) or later, a simple software upgrade can be performed.

   • If the switch ROMmon version is 6.1(2) or earlier, upgrade and purchase an upgrade kit for the supervisor engine.    

     This upgrade kit (WS-X6K-S2-KIT) will upgrade the bootflash device from 16MB to 32MB and the ROMmon version from 6.1(2) to 6.1(3).
