Too many dummy auth reqs are sent by the 802.1x authenticator to the RADIUS server when a Cisco Catalyst 6000 switch is used

Core issue

This issue occurs due to the presence of Cisco bug ID CSCdz53998.

Note: A CatOS upgrade from a release that does not support dot1x to a release that does can trigger this problem.


Resolution

In order to resolve this issue, perform these steps:

  • Enter the switch> (enable) set  feature dot1x radius-keeplive disable command in order to disable the the dot1x keepalive
    feature that checks whether the RADIUS server is active.

  • Download and upgrade the Cisco Catalyst software to the latest version available.
