Introduction

This document shows the issue related to password faced by an user who is setting IPS

Problem

User is facing an error when he is trying to create a account in IPS.

"Error: setEnableAuthenticationTokenStatus : Failure setting the account's password: it is based upon your password entry" (Pwd used: John123)

"Error: setEnableAuthenticationTokenStatus : Failure setting the account's password: is too simple" (Pwd used: Cisco123)

So user need to change the password policy to set password?

Solution

Step 1: Login to CLI , then :

Step 2: conf t > service authentication > password-strength

You can set your password policy.

From GUI:

Step 3: Configuration> Sensor Management > Password.

The Error messages you see are expected due to the password choice and the  behavior cannot be altered.

1.  John123

setEnableAuthenticationTokenStatus : Failure setting the account's password: it is based on a dictionary word

Try this by changing the size range value ( minimum default is 8 ), If you change it to 6/7, then you would see the following error.

2. While setting Cisco123

Error: setEnableAuthenticationTokenStatus : Failure setting the account's password: it is based upon your password entry

I beleive you see the following message because of another account with same password.
