TITLE

Cisco Jabber for Windows MSI Transformation failing via MS Orca

SYMPTOMS

Trying to use MS Orca to edit the MSI file and add the configuration.

Getting Error Message that "This MSI contains at least one embedded substorage which cannot be copied to the new package. You will need to manually import these substorages into the new file."

ENVIRONMENT

Cisco Jabber for Windows using MS Orca to edit the property values

CAUSES

This issue happens due to certain components, that are in the MSI.

Orca is not capable of moving these components when using save as.

RESOLUTION

1. Create a copy of Jabber MSI file and rename it to any name you desire
2. Open MS Orca and then open the renamed fileScroll down and click on the "Property" Table under the Tables Column on left hand sideOnce Property Table loads on the right hand side, right click an "Add Row"; you can also do CTRL+R
3. In the Add Row Window enter the values listed in the following link:Presence Server Arguments    
4. Save the file using the “SAVE” option ONLY.
5. Close the file in MS ORCA
6. Now you can successfully deploy this individually or via Group Policy Management.

Please make sure you use the following Properties only when adding new rows:

• TYPE
• ADDRESS
• DOMAIN
• LANGUAGE
• TFTP_FILE_NAME
• FORGOT_PASSWORD_URL
• SSO_ORG_DOMAIN
• LOGIN_RESOURCE

These properties correspond to the command line arguments and have the same values. See

I have the same problem as him. I try to use the .mst and it just doesnt work.

It does not appear that Step 3 and the link in Step 4 apply any longer. I am still getting this issue in the newest version of Jabber.

It appears that using the suggested method breaks the digital signature of the .msi.

Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem and tried the resolution you mentioned but it still not solving the problem. I also tried using the CiscoJabberProperties.mst but I am getting "

I have Jabber 9.2

Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit OS

Microsoft ORCA

Microsoft Visual Express 2010 SP 1

Please suggest if any one have similar issue and resolved the same.

Hey Guys,

When we are editing the MSI file with MS ORCA, manually adding the values in the property table, make sure that we are only doing "Save" and NOT "Save As".

I just tested again with Jabber 9.2(2) and that works.

Thanks for the response. The issue with that method vs. the transform is that it breaks the digital signiture of the .msi.

It's my understanding the transforming the MSI vs editing retains the digital signiture.

Does anybody have an update on this (old) problem?  Orca transform still seems to be broken in the 10.5 release.

Hi Frederick... I just got an answer on this and was looking for this old thread. After editing or transforming the MSI one should not expect the digital signature to remain valid. 'Real' (read not free or very expensive) packaging software can accomplish this, but orca cannot do this. This came from the manager of our packaging group (a true SME on the subject), I showed him the procedure Cisco is prescribing and he assured me there is no simple way of accomplishing this.
