Objective

The system clock on the ESW2-550X Switch can be set in two different ways: manually or synchronized with Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP). SNTP is a protocol used to synchronize the clocks of devices on a data network. When the device uses a local server, the devices receives updates to the time at preset intervals. The device also supports the SNTP which assures accurate (up to the millisecond) network device clock time synchronization. The objective of this document is to help configure the System Time Settings on the ESW2-550X Switches. This section describes the options for configuring system time, time zone, and Daylight Savings Time (DST).

Applicable Devices

• ESW2-550X-48DC-R
• ESW2-550X-48-R

Software Version

• 1.3.0.62

System Time Settings

Step 1. Log in to web configuration utility of the switch and choose Administration > Time Settings > System Time. The System Time page opens:

Clock Source Settings

Follow this procedure if you wish to dynamically synchronize the clock or else proceed to next section to set the clock manually.

Step 1. In Main Clock Source (SNTP Servers) field, check the Enable check box to dynamically synchronize the switch time with time from an SNTP server, or in the Alternate Clock Source(PC via active HTTP/HTTPS sessions) field, check the Enable check box to synchronize the time via PC.

Note: To know more how to configure SNTP Server refer to Configure a Unicast SNTP Server on ESW2-550X Switch if you want to configure unicast SNTP Server or refer to Configure Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) Multicast/Anycast on ESW2-550X Switch if you want to configure multicast SNTP Server.

Step 2. Click Apply

Manual Settings

Step 1. In the Date field, enter the date in YYYY-MMM-DD format.

Step 2. In the Local time field, enter the time in HH:MM:SS format.

Timesaver: You can also click the here link to import the time and date from the PC.

Step 3. Click Apply

Time Zone Settings

Note: You have to configure the clock settings manually or automatically to configure Time Zone settings. To know more how to configure clock settings manually refer to Clock Source Settings and Manual Settings section of this article or to know more how to configure the clock settings dynamically refer to Clock Source Settings section of this article.

Step 1. In the Get Time Zone from DHCP field, check the Enable check box to dynamically configure time zone and the DST from the DHCP server.

Step 2. From the Time Zone drop-down list, choose the time difference that the user wants to use. It is set as UTC by default.

Step 3. In the Time Zone Acronym field, entire the acronym of the time zone up to 4 characters. An example is CT (Central Time) or MT (Mountain Time).

Step 4. Click Apply

Daylight Savings Settings

Note: You have to configure the clock settings manually or automatically to configure Time Zone settings. To know more how to configure clock settings manually refer to Clock Source Settings and Manual Settings section of this article or to know more how to configure the clock settings dynamically refer to Clock Source Settings section of this article.

Step 1. In the Daylight Savings field, check the Enable check box to enable Daylight Savings Time (DST).

Step 2. In the Time Set Offset field, enter the number of minutes offset from the GMT ranging from 1-1440. It is set as 60 by default.

Step 3. In the Daylight Savings Type field, click the radio button for the desired type of DST type to be used.

• USA — If the user is located in United States of America and wants to observe the Daylight Saving time automatically on the switch as per standards.

• European — If the user is located in a European country and wants to observe the Daylight Saving time automatically on the switch as per standards.

• By dates — If the user wants to observe the Daylight Saving through specific dates.

• Recurring — Choose this option if certain Daylight Saving settings are observed periodically.

Timesaver: If you choose USA or European all the DST settings will be set by default and skip to Step 8. If you choose Recurring, skip to Step 6.

Note: If you choose By dates as the Daylight Saving Type then the first From and To parameters will become active.

Step 4. In theFrom field that corresponds to date and time, enter the date and time at which the DST starts.

Step 5. In the To field that corresponds to date and time, enter the day and time at which the DST ends. Skip to Step 8 to apply the settings.

Note: If you choose Recurring as the Daylight Saving Type then the second From and To fields will become available.

Step 6. Enter the day, week, month and time for which DST begins every year in the From fields.

Step 7. Enter the day, week, month and time for which DST ends every year in the To fields.

Step 8. Click Apply.
