Objective

VPN Passthrough allows VPN tunnels to pass through the router’s firewall using IPSec, L2TP, or PPTP protocols. This document describes how to configure VPN Passthrough on the WRV200 Router.

Applicable Devices

• WRV200 Router

Step-by-Step Procedure

Configuring VPN Passthrough

Step 1. Using the configuration utility for the router choose VPN > VPN Passthrough.

Step 2. Enable the protocol that is needed for network traffic.

• IPSec Passthrough Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) is a suite of protocols used to implement secure exchange of packets at the IP layer. It is enabled by default to allow IPSec tunnels to pass through the Router.

• PPTP Passthrough Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) allows the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) to be tunneled through an IP network.

• L2TP Passthrough Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol is the method used to enable Point-to-Point sessions via the Internet on the Layer 2 level. L2TP Passthrough is enabled by default.

Step 3. Click Save.

Note: Disabling passthrough may prevent VPN clients from connecting to your network.
