It is necessary to get information when there is motion detection or an alarm is triggered for security purposes. The IM server area on the Servers page is used to send alert messages to an IM address when the motion detection is triggered on the VC240 Bullet Camera. If you want to configure an IM Server, you must create a Jabber account in order to get a Jabber-ID and password.
This article explains how to configure Instant Messaging Server on a VC240 Bullet Network Camera.
• VC240 Bullet Network Camera
Step 1. Log in to the Internet Camera Configuration Utility and choose Applications > Servers. The Servers page opens:
Step 2. Click the IM Server tab.
Step 3. Enter a descriptive name for your IM server in the Server Name field.
Step 4. Enter the domain name or IP address of the IM server in the Server address field.
Step 5. Enter the Instant Message (IM) user ID in the Jabber-ID field that the VC240 camera should use to log in.
Note: Jabber is an instant messaging service (IM) that is based on Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) and geared to provide message exchange in real time between two points on the Internet. Jabber is similar to IM systems such as AIM, ICQ and MSN but is open source, extensible through XML, and decentralized (allowing anyone to run a Jabber server).
Step 6. Enter the password of the IM account in the Password field. A password is only required if your IM account requires authentication.
Step 7. Enter the address where the IM alert should be sent in the Send to field.
Step 8. Enter the Port number in the Server Port field. The default IM port is set to 5222. The range is from 1024 to 65535.
Step 9. (Optional) Click Test to verify that the configuration is correct. A test message will be sent to the server. If the test was not successful, verify that the information provided is correct.
Step 10. Click Save to save the changes.
