A VLAN helps a group of hosts to communicate as if they are on the physical network, regardless of their location. The VLAN feature allows the IP phone to connect to a different host no matter where it is, and assumes that it is on the same virtual network as the host. An interface that has VLAN traffic needs to have the VLANs assigned to that interface or packets may be dropped. VLAN configuration helps to reduce the size of the broadcast domain.
This document explains how to configure VLAN on SPA232D VoIP ATA.
Step 1. Log in to the Phone Adapter Configuration Utility and choose Network Setup > Advanced Settings > VLAN . The VLAN page opens:
Step 2. Click the Enabled radio button to enable VLAN on the SPA232D.
Step 3. Enter the ID for the VLAN in the VLAN ID field. The range of the VLAN ID should be from 1-4094. When VLAN is enabled, the default VLAN ID is 1.
Step 4. Click Submit.
