A firmware is a control program for the Access Points. The WAP551 and WAP561 Access Points have two firmware images or files. This is so that if one fails for any reason, the other, a backup or non-active one can be used. You can also choose to use one over the other. This article explains how to swap the primary or Active and the secondary or non-active image on the WAP551 and WAP561.
Swap Active Firmware Image
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Administration > Manage Firmware. The Manage Firmware page opens:
Note: This page can also be used for firmware upgrade when a new firmware version becomes available.
The following information is displayed:
- PID VID — Displays the product ID (PID) and version ID (VID) of the access point.
- Active Firmware Version —The version of the currently active firmware.
- Inactive Firmware Version — The version of the backup firmware image.
Step 2. Click on the Swap Active Image button to load the non-active image and make it active. The current image will become non-active.
Step 3. A confirmation window appears. Click OK. The backup image will be the primary or active image when the WAP reboots.
Note: The device will reboot. Any connection to the WAP may be lost temporarily for a few minutes.
