Access Point Modes on the WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point

Objectives

The WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point can be configured into 3 different Access Point modes: Access Point, Wireless Repeater and Wireless Bridge. The user can configure the Access Point for any one of the mentioned modes shown in the document.

This document explains the procedure to configure the different Access Point Modes on the WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point.

Access Point Mode Tab

Step 1. Using the web-based utility of the WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point, choose AP Mode > AP Mode. The Access Point Mode window opens.

 

The Access Point Mode window displays information about the different modes supported by the Access Point.

The MAC Address Field displays the MAC Address of the Access Point.

Step 2. The default mode for the WAP2000 is the Access Point mode. To configure other wireless devices for other Access Points in range for repeating the signal of the WAP2000, check the Allow wireless signal to be repeated by a repeater check box.

Step 3. Click the Site Survey button. The Site Survey window opens. This window displays information about the channel of operation, SSID Name, MAC Address and the Security Mode of the available Wireless Devices that can be used to repeat the WAP2000's wireless signals.

Step 4. Choose the appropriate wireless device by clicking the adjacent radio button. The MAC Address of the device selected is displayed in the MAC1 field. The WAP2000 allows up to three wireless devices simultaneously to repeat it's signal.

 

Step 5. The second mode of the WAP2000 is the Wireless Repeater Mode. To configure WAP2000 to repeat the wireless signals of wireless device in range, click the Wireless Repeater radio button.

Step 6. Click the Site Survey button. The Site Survey window opens. This window displays information about the channel of operation, SSID Name, MAC Address and the Security Mode of the available Wireless Devices whose signal can be repeated by WAP2000.

Step 7. Choose the appropriate wireless device by clicking the adjacent radio button. The MAC Address of the device selected is displayed in the MAC field. The WAP2000 can repeat only a single device's wireless signal.

Step 8. The third mode of the WAP2000 is the Wireless Bridge Mode. This mode can be used to connect physically separated wireless networks wirelessly. To configure WAP2000 for Wireless Bridge mode, scroll down on the page and click the Wireless Bridge radio button.

Step 9. Click the Site Survey button. The Site Survey window opens. This window displays information about the channel of operation, SSID Name, MAC Address and the Security Mode of the available Wireless Devices.

Step 10. Choose the appropriate wireless device by clicking the adjacent radio button. The MAC Address of the device selected is displayed in the MAC1 field. The WAP2000 allows up to 4 wireless devices to be bridged.

Step 5.Click Save to save the settings.
