Objective

The Advanced H323 is primarily used for voice and video conferencing. It determines the protocol to provide audio visual communication sessions on any packet network. This standard sees to call signalling and control, multimedia transport and control and bandwidth control for point to point and multipoint conferences.

A normal Network Address Translation (NAT) cannot be used for H323 devices. This is because in an H323 VoIP packet the source IP and the source port are carried in the same H323 payload instead of carrying the source port values in the TCP header. So the destination H323 device is confused as it sees the difference between source IP and source port in TCP/IP header and the one in the H323 PDU. "H323 aware NAT" devices are application layer NATs and they recognize H323 packets.

H323 Configuration

H323 Configuration on the Device Interface

Step 1. Press the Home button to wake the device from idle and use the navigation keys to choose the Settings tab.

Step 2. Use the navigation keys to choose Administrator settings and press the Select button on the C20 to continue.

Step 3. Use the navigation keys to choose Advance Configurationand press the Select button on the C20 to continue.

Step 4. Use the navigation keys to choose H323 and press the Select button on the C20 to continue.

Step 5. Use the navigation keys to choose NAT and press the Select button to continue.

Step 6. Use the navigation keys to choose Address and press the Select button to continue.

Step 7. Enter the address in the Address field and press the Select button to continue.

Step 8. Use the navigation keys to choose Save.

Step 9. Use the navigation keys to choose Mode and press the Select button to continue.

Step 10. Use the navigation keys to choose the desired mode and press the Select button to confirm your selection. There are two possible options On and Off.

H323 Configuration on Web Utility

Step 1. Use the web configuration utility to choose Configuration> Advanced Configuration > H323. The H323  page opens:

Step 2. Enter the address of the NAT  in the Address field and press Ok to save it.

Step 3. Choose the desired status for the NAT from the Mode drop-down list.
