Core Issue

The graphical user interface (GUI) was designed for Cisco CallManager Express (CCME) and Cisco Unity Express (CUE) to ease the administration of the CCME and CUE IOS features. The GUI provides a user-friendly interface to the standard Cisco IOS command line interface (CLI). The GUI translates and sends the Cisco IOS CLI commands to the gateway through an HTTP communication path.

Cisco has determined that some commands can overwrite sections of the gateway memory, and corrupt the data on the voice gateway. These commands include system-wide configuration parameters and commands that reset all IP phones. Therefore, the use of the HTTP GUI for CCME can lead to the corruption and instability of the IOS voice gateway, when these commands are issued. This can also occur due to the usage of the GUI for CUE when interworking with CCME. Depending on the current IOS configuration and the specific command set, failures can range from minor to critical.

Refer to Cisco bug ID CSCeg03707.

Another potential symptom of CSCeg03707:

When using CME GUI to add 7902 phone initially, the CME GUI does not recognize the phone. This might result in phones not registering properly.

Resolution

To prevent the occurrence of this problem, Cisco recommends that you use the CLI to configure and maintain the CCME VoIP gateway. To disable access to CCME through the HTTP GUI interface, issue the no ip http server global configuration command.

CSCeg03707 is fixed in 12.3(08)T06, 12.3(07)T06, 12.3(11)XL, 12.3(11)T02, and 12.3(11.09)T.

You can also overcome this problem by upgrading the IOS to any of the above mentioned versions by visiting: Cisco IOS Software
