    Introduction

    WLC 5508 (7.0.116.0) users are disconnecting intermittently - AP 1242 running 12.4

    Scenario

    WLC 5508 (Image:7.0.116.0) and 18 AP's model 1242 {image:12.4(23c)JA2} are connected to WLC.

    Core Issue

Users are disconnected for few seconds 4 to 5 times in a day and all access points are showing the following messages. There is no logs related to disconnected of radio interface in WLC. When users are disconnected, Users are in wireless range but we cant able to ping WLC. WLC is running in mixed mode (802.11a and 802.11b/g). All AP's are powered through power injector.

    More Details

    • Distance of Power injector and AP is around 40 to 50 meters.
    • All AP's are in local mode.

    Solution

The following changes fixed the issue without radio resets.

Radio interfaces of APs are resetting with code 62 and this is most likely due to RRM setting the channel. Earlier the RRM-DCA setting was 10 minutes hence channel changed every 10 minutes which now has been configured 24 hours which is maximum.

All APs are working without Radio resets.

From the Interval drop-down list, choose one of the following options to specify how often the DCA algorithm is allowed to run: 10 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, or 24 hours. The default value is 10 minutes.

    Note:

If your controller supports only OfficeExtend access points, we recommend that you set the DCA interval to 6 hours for optimal performance. For deployments with a combination of OfficeExtend access points and local access points, the range of 10 minutes to 24 hours can be used.
