Cisco TelePresence Management Suite Java process crashes after scanned with Teenable Nessus scanner

After a scan with Teenable Nessus vulnerability scanner, Java process on the TMS server moves to 100% utilization, the web pages are unavailable, and only a restart of the machine helps.

Has anyone encountered this before ? Affected TMS version is 13.0.

I looked at the other thread, but there was no usable info. I also had to restart the server. Java process was the one at 100%, the same as in the other case. I am considering on opening a TAC case regarding this issue.

- Is the TMS installed to hardware or vmware?

- What's the stats on the server, i.e. OS, CPU, memory, etc?

- If vmware, are the resources dedicated to the TMS server? And do they at least meet minimum TMS install requirements?

- Is the TMS Agent in use? For example, if it is, then you should see 2 x java processes running. One for the TMS Agent application itself and the other for the TMS Agent db (aka opends)?  If the TMS Agent is not being utilized, then I would suggest disabling it, i.e. Admin Tools > Configuration > General Settings > Enable TMS Agent

Keep in mind, and the reason that I'm bringing up the TMS Agent, is that the TMS Agent application is written in Java and comes with it's own (Java 1.6.0_05) when it's installed, meaning it is using a dated Java version. However, and if this later version appears to be the problem with the scanner, you can install a later version of Java to the server and then change the TMS Agent related environment variables to point to the later Java install.

As far as the Tenable Nessus Scanner, there are a few things out there via Google concerning the Tenable Nessus Scanner and Java. For example:

And nessus.org actually posts Oracle Java SE Multiple Vulnerablites:

Hello friend.

I wonder if you solved your problem of high CPU utilization on the server of TMS?

My TMS server is 100% and do not know what to do!

thank you
