Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to ask questions and learn about the Cisco OfficeExtend 600 Series Solution that comprises the Cisco Aironet® 600 Series OfficeExtend Access Points, Cisco wireless controllers and the Cisco Wireless Control System with Cisco expert Bruce Tiff. The Cisco Aironet 600 Series OfficeExtend Access Point is purposely designed for the teleworker by supporting secure corporate data access and also allows connectivity for personal home devices with segmented home-traffic support. The access point connects to the home's broadband Internet access and establishes a secure tunnel to the corporate network so that remote employees can access data, voice, video, and cloud services for a mobility experience consistent with that at the corporate office. There is no need for special VPN software on your corporate devices while using the Aironet 600 Series Access point.

Hello Bruce,

Do you know if  the OfficeExtend-600 supports both 2.4GHz and 5.0Ghz bands or only 1?  Also, How many corporate dedicated SSID’s can the OfficeExtend-600 support?

We're thining in setting up a system and this information will help us.

Bruce,

With the release of 7.2 code it appears that the ability to anchor a remote LAN has been removed.  Do you know why this was removed, and if it will be reinstated in a later code?

Hi Stephen,

That capability is still there in R7.2 and has been added to the WLC GUI whereas previously it was via the CLI only. In addition we have expanded the capability to support up to 2 dedicated ethernet ports now ias needed.  Each can be placed on separate VLANs if needed.  Hope this helps.

Bruce,

The mobility anchor option for a remote-LAN has been removed.  It is still there for WLAN, but not for the wired. There was a bug ID to remove this option in 7.2, I will try to find it. The issue is that it was removed in 7.2, buy if you upgraded from 7.0.x to 7.2.130.0, the existing mobility anchor would still be there and working, but you no longer can add, modify or delete a mobility anchor from a remote-lan. The fix would be to downgrade back to 7.0.x. This has been removed in both the GUI and CLI.

Hi Sveta,

Yes, the OEAP-600 supports both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz bands simultanoeusly which is a great advantage in home office environments where there tends to be more congestion in the 2.4Ghz space.

As of R7.2, we support up to 3 corporate SSID's.  In addition you can configure personal SSID as well for personal internet usgae as well.

Hope this helps,

-Bruce

Hi Bruce,

How many corporate dedicated SSIDs can the OfficeExtend-600 support? Which WLCs support the OfficeExtend? We're thinking to deploy this solution.

Thx.

Marianna

Hi Marianna,

We support up to 3 corporate SSID's as of R7.2.  In addition you can configure personal SSID's for personal internet acess without having traffic sent back thru the corporate WLC.

The following WLC'sseries  support OEAP-600:  Flex 7500, 5500, 2500 and WiSM2.
