HSRP にて使用可能なグループ数は version 1 が 0 ~ 255 の 256 グループ、 version 2 は 0 ~ 4095 の 4096 グループとなり、それぞれのグループに対して以下の仮想 MAC アドレス が割り当てられます。
理論的には HSRP のグループ数は上記の最大値となりますが、ハードウェア起因の制限によって、この最大値を満たせない場合があります。その要因となるのが MAC address filter の登録可能な最大値であり、この値はハードウェアごとに異なります。 登録可能な 仮想 MAC アドレスの数はその最大値に依存するため、使用可能な最大 HSRP グループ数がハードウェアごとに異なることになります。なお、 HSRP グループ数がハードウェア制限に達した際には下記のようなメッセージが出力され、それ以上新規の HSRP グループを作成できない場合があります。

ハードウェア制限による上限値は出力結果の Potential Max Groups per subin に表示されます。
