Radius encryption question

Hi,

Just wish to verify what type of encryption used by say a Windows Radius server and a Cisco network device.  Online references that Radius only encrypts the password but i can't seem to find any info as to what type of encryption.  I am inclined to believe that the password is encrypted using the pre-shard key but what type of encryption (3des. aes?)?

It uses MD5 hash.
