65XX CSM alias IP MAC Address

How is the MAC address determined for the CSM alias IP MAC address?

Does the MAC address address change when switching over from the primary to standby CSM?

Re: 65XX CSM alias IP MAC Address

Hi,

I could not get any documentation on this one. Can anyone seen details of this anywhere?

I always rely on the Cisco univerCD for configuration documents, but could not see anything on this matter.

Configuring CSM:

Re: 65XX CSM alias IP MAC Address

The MAC address replied by the CSM for alias & VIP address is called a

"virtual" MAC address.

In a redudant CSMs configuration, the "virtual" MAC address has a fix

format with the last byte is the FT group number. So if the two CSMs

configured with the same FT group number, they should have the same

"virtual" MAC:

00-01-64-F9-1A-

Without FT configuration, the "virtual" MAC address the assigned MAC

from manufacture. It usually is one value more than the "physical" MAC

for vlan IP address. If you execute "show module", you would see the

physical MAC address range for CSM and other modules.

Gilles.
