We have a CSS configured as IP address 10.88.2.31, 10.88.2.56 configured as VIP.
From the sniffer trace, it is sending icmp redirect to the clients accessing the VIP 10.88.2.56.
Following is the message:
icmp redirect ignored if=sbif2 src=10.88.2.31 dst=10.88.2.9 gw=10.88.2.56 code=1 orig_src=10.88.2.9 orig_dst=10.88.2.56

what's the arp entry on your client for both ip addreses ?
The physical interface ip and the vip should have
different mac address.
If your client uses the same mac address for both, the css will send a redirect to correct the client.

do a 'arp -a' and see the actual arp database.
Maybe the pc does not use the right mac address.
Also, what CSS model are you talking about and what software version.
Thanks,
Gilles.

Hi Gilles
You are right. ARP -A shows the client has the same MAC addresses for the physcial and VIP addresses.
Is this the CSS problem or normal behavior?
FYI, it is a CSS11050 running ap0500002 (5.00 Build 2).

Could be a CSS issue.
Upgrade to the latest build 5.0(2.04)
You can find it at :
http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/webns-maint
If the problem is still there after that, this would be a client side issue.
BTW, you can see exactly who is at fault by capturing a sniffer trace on the client, then clear the arp entry on the client and ping the vip and see what the CSS replies to the arp request.
Gilles.
