Direct Connection vs Downlink

brian

We have a CSS11150 with:

1. port #1 uplinked to our internet connection

2. port #2 downlinked to a port on a 3548.

This port on the 3548 is part of a 5 port VLAN where the actual content server/services are connected to (same VLAN id on both devices)

Does the CSS treat routing/packet delivery/ip address translation any differently with the services indirectly connected vs if they were to be directly connected to the physical ports on the CSS?

TIA

Brian

P.S. The idea here is that we are trying to conserve port usage on the CSS so that we can hook up and service multiple groups of load balanced servers potentially for multiple customers.

Brian,

the CSS makes no difference between servers directly connected and servers connected via L2 or even L3 switch.

As long as the CSS can reach the server, everything will work fine.

Gilles.

I was concerned that the CSS would be able to tell the servers were not directly connected and would then decide it needed to spoof the source ip address when balancing traffic to them.

It sounds like that is not the case and we will keep our current architecture.

Thanks

the CSS always spoof the client ip address by default.

It does client nat when you configure a group.

Gilles.
