We're attempting to configure wae-512 as a print server and were wondering if we should enable cups? What's the trade-offs?
thanks.

Alex,
When you enable the print server in the WAFS Edge Service, it uses CUPS for the printing service. If you are considering using WAAS for printing, I recommend you consider 4.0.19 due to the recent Cisco Security Response. http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/707/cisco-sr-20080625-waas.shtml
Hope that helps,
Dan

Alex,
Cisco.com documentation is here... http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v4019/configuration/guide/printsvr.html
That is probably the best place to start.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the follow-up response. I rate it a "5" as you are doing your part to make the Cisco Professional Forum one of Cisco's best selling points.

Dan, Thnx...
Are the CUPS and Samba services redundant in a sense that if we were to use Samba, would we also have to use CUPS?
thanks again..

You are correct. When you enable the WAAS Print services, you are using the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) service for printing.
