Ftp data transfering drops when failover from active to backup

Gilles,

Do you have time to do the testing? :) Thanks.

Re: Ftp data transfering drops when failover from active to back

could you resend me your config - at least just part involved in our issue.

I'll give it a try in the lab.

Re: Ftp data transfering drops when failover from active to back

I finally found time to test this setup and it works fine for me.

Data connections are correctly replicated to the standby device [you can see them with 'show flows 0.0.0.0'].

After failover, the data transfer keeps going as if there was no interuption.

To force failover I change the keepalive type of the critical service, using a tcp port that is known to be down.

If you still have issues, you should collect evidence and open a TAC case so we can try to isolate the problem.

Hi Gilles,

Thanks for your help.

Could you describe how you did the test?

Re: Ftp data transfering drops when failover from active to back

client --- router ----- CSS ----server

Open FTP connection to CSS-VIP.

Check with 'show flows 0.0.0.0' that the connection exists on both active and standby CSS.

Start data transfer

Check again connections with 'show flows 0.0.0.0'.

Change keepalive to force the critical service to go down.

Verify that CSS fails over to standby.

Check 'show flows 0.0.0.0' and verify the connections are still there.

Check that the data transfer is still going on.

Everything went ok.

Re: Ftp data transfering drops when failover from active to back

Thanks Gilles.

Have you tried to shutdown the interface(inside or outside) of CSS?

During my test, the failover works if i reboot the active CSS. However, it failed when i shutdown one of CSS's interface or pull out the cable. If you can test this scenario, that will be great.

Thanks again.

Re: Ftp data transfering drops when failover from active to back

Jianwen,

just did the test by shutting down the interface on the catalyst to which the CSS is connected.

I used the same procedure as before to verify that everything was ok, and again, I had no issue.

That does not mean you do not have an issue.

However, it might be something specific to your environment. Maybe spanning-tree or something like this.

Unfortunately this is beyond the scope of this forum, so I would suggest to contact the TAC.

Thanks Gilles. I will try to check other devices and configuration again.
