Hi,
The SAM is pretty much the same that a IOM module but without any physical ports, it would allow the CSS to handle more flows.
I do not really have a doc, but this information is very useful, notice is for 11503 (same for 11506 while you can add more modules to it):
CSS 11503 Performance Summary
1. Maximum number of Layer 4 connections/second:
Chassis Configuration
Maximum HTTP CPS
Switch Control Manager (SCM)
7,800
SCM & Session Accelerator Module(SAM)
12,200
SCM & 2 x SAM
19,300
2. Maximum number of Layer 5 connections/second:
Chassis Configuration
Maximum HTTP CPS
Switch Control Manager (SCM)
3,700
SCM & Session Accelerator Module(SAM)
5,900
SCM & 2 x SAM
9,400
Hope it helps!!

Just to clarify when I say that the SAM and IOM are pretty much the same I mean they both have an SP (Session Processor) that will add more resources to the CSS and will allow more connections to be handled as described before.
Hope if helps!!
