Hi,

I have a CSM on a Cisco 6513 switch. I have configured group 10 with sticky timeout 100 minute.

From the following output its clear that the timeout value is 100-

show module csm 6 sticky config

Group CurrConns Timeout Type

------------------------------------------------------------

10 993 100 src-ip netmask 255.255.255.255

20 22 100 src-ip netmask 255.255.255.255

30 1679 100 src-ip netmask 255.255.255.255

40 3 100 src-ip netmask 255.255.255.255

50 1236 100 src-ip netmask 255.255.255.255

60 972 100 src-ip netmask 255.255.255.255

70 9 100 src-ip netmask 255.255.255.255

However in the following output the

timeout value is far more than 100 mins -

show module csm 6 sticky group 10

group sticky-data real timeout

----------------------------------------------------------------

10 ip 10.10.204.32 10.50.14.61 11675760

10 ip 10.50.21.41 10.50.14.62 4614

10 ip 10.50.21.52 10.50.14.63 5111

10 ip 10.50.22.66 10.50.14.62 4882

10 ip 10.12.200.5 10.50.14.61 2080

10 ip 10.12.200.22 10.50.14.62 1599

10 ip 10.50.32.39 10.50.14.61 9832063

10 ip 10.50.32.42 10.50.14.61 10165442

10 ip 10.50.32.54 10.50.14.63 16100463

10 ip 10.50.32.64 10.50.14.61 9823661

10 ip 10.50.32.73 10.50.14.63 23998088

10 ip 10.50.32.84 10.50.14.61 383

10 ip 10.50.32.104 10.50.14.62 370

10 ip 10.50.32.105 10.50.14.63 920

10 ip 10.50.32.107 10.50.14.62 971

10 ip 10.50.32.108 10.50.14.63 1562

10 ip 10.50.32.110 10.50.14.62 3305

I would like to know what exactly is this timeout value mentioned in the second output. Does it shows the sticky time out value or its the time for which the sticky entry was there in the database for a particular client.

Any help on this will be appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,

Sushil

the value is the time left before the sticky entry is removed from the sticky table.

So it should maximum the configured value and it should decrease with time.

we have seen this issue a few times only and clearing the sticky table always fixes the issue.

What software version on the SuP/MSFC and CSM are you running ?

Thanks,

Gilles.

HI Giles,

Thanks for the response. Following are the software version of the SUP and the CSM-

SUP - 12.2(17a)SX

CSM - 3.2(2)

Since you have observed this kind issuse I would like to know if this is some kind of bug or what exactly is the reason for this kind of behavior.

If you go through the output of "show module csm 6 sticky group 10" there is a mention of timeout value. I would like to know if this timeout value is same as sticky timeout. If so this value should always be 100 [as configured]. Or this timeout value shows how long an entry is there in a sticky table for a particular client i.e. a cumulative value.

What I feel is if we clear the sticky table this time out value will be greatly reduced since the connections will be restablished and the time since the connection is there will be low [if this is a cumulative value].

Hope I have mentioned clearly my doubts.

Thanks and Regards,

Sushil

Sushil,

this is a bug.

However, all customers who encountered this issue upgraded to 4.x and the problem never came back.

So, even if there is no bug to track this specific issue we consider that the problem is fixed in 4.x

Gilles.

HI Gilles,

Thanks for the reply. I have asked my customer to upgrade the software to 4.X and we are under the upgrade process.

In the mean while for my udnerstanding can you please tell what exactly the timeout value signifies in the second output?

Really appreciate your effort.

Thanks and Regards,

Sushil
