1- In the "one-arm transparent" configuration, why is the upstream-router service type set to transparent-cache?
2- If I change it to redundancy-up, will it mess up management return-traffic from our SCA's?
We are using the upstream-router service in our ACLs (prefer) to ensure management traffic is properly routed back via the appropriate default route. However, I want to optimize the VIP/Interface redundancy by using this service as a critical circuit/router service, but the instructions indicate that the service type needs to changed to redundancy-up.

I don't have the answer to 1 and 2.
But the solution to your problem is 2 configure 2 services.
One is transparent and used to forward traffic.
The other one is redundancy up and only used to monitor the upstream router.

Merci Gilles!
That's the solution I decided to implement.
