I have a customer doing a try-and-buy with two WAEs (612 at core, 512 at remote) on either end of an ASA-built VPN tunnel. The remote site's internet access is DSL @ 512Kbps. The customer is using CIFS acceleration; and while they are experiencing acceleration, the response time is not what he has experienced with another scenario:
He night-lights doing network admin and has deployed Riverbeds on dedicated T-1s; and claims to have experienced much greater acceleration for CIFS in the Riverbed environment.
Now short of the obvious 500 Kbps vs. T-1, I'm wondering whether having VPN between the WAEs (whether Riverbed or Cisco) could depreciate the acceleration being done due to encyrption, etc of IPSEC. I believe the customer is comparing apples to oranges and want to understand any more differences/ideas of WAFS over VPN.
THANKS!
Mike.
