Hi,

I have a Central manager version below and I wanted to enable SNMP traps for WAE Alarms namely Minor, Major, Critical.

Wide Area Application Services

Software Release 5.1.1a b4

Configuration has been enabled as follows:

snmp-server enable traps alarm raise-critical

snmp-server enable traps alarm clear-critical

snmp-server enable traps alarm raise-major

snmp-server enable traps alarm clear-major

snmp-server enable traps alarm raise-minor

snmp-server enable traps alarm clear-minor

snmp-server host xxxx yyyyyyy

snmp-server trap-source GigabitEthernet 0/0

The mib  has been compiled on the NMS server but no traps is received upon activation of the alarm.

We did a monitoring on the NMS server but no snmp trap received.

Checked on the central manager, no traps were sent

0 SNMP packets output

    0 Too big errors

    2048 Maximum packet size

    0 No such name errors

    0 Bad values errors

    0 General errors

    0 Response PDUs

    0 Trap PDUs

The test has done to generate an alarm and the alarm did appear on the CMS GUI but no trap.

Is it necessary to upload the mib on the CMS for the trap to be generated?

Thanks

Hi Ashley,

If you are monitoring the EDGE WAE device using SNMP you need not to enable SNMP on the Central Manager. The alarms that you see in the Central Manager are also generated in the device itself. You can check using the command: show alarms.

You can use CM to configure a particular device or device groups for SNMP.

Have you configured the correct community on WAE device? Have you enabled this command: snmp-server enable traps

Here's a document link for SNMP on WAAS. Please have a look to ensure that you haven't missed anything.

Hi Kanwaljeet,

We have just tested by disconnection an edge WAE. The alarm critical appears on the GUI  central manager but sh alarms shows nothing and hence no traps.

Does it mean that CM will generate traps for itself, I mean disk failures etc but not alarms from edge WAE.

Configuring snmp traps on individual WAE for us is not helpful in cases where WAE is itself offline due to link issues, traps will not be receive if it is a comms failure.

Traps from CM makes much more sense when the WAE is offline.
