451 451 Failed in remote data xmission - psmtp (state 18)

Hi,

a sender is using Google app to handle their email service and will send us about 3000 messages daily. But we found that there have few messages (below 10)cannot be received by our server everyday, sender also received below bounce back notice:

Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed:

     user@abc.com

Message will be retried for 1 more day(s)

Technical details of temporary failure:

Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 451 451 Failed in remote data xmission - psmtp (state 18).

I would like to know are there any setting need to configue in SPAM & VIRUS BLOCKER?

Thank you very much!!!

Ming

Hello Ming,

the bounce message is created by the Google delivery manager and not by the Cisco Spam & Virus Blocker device (see http://www.google.com/support/appsecurity/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=134416).

For further analyze and troubleshooting, you'd need to link the date and time of the transmission with the mail_logs of the destination Cisco Spam & Virus Blocker to find out:

1. if an inbound connection is attempted by Google mail

2. how the inbound connection is handled

If no corresponding inbound connection attempt is found by that time, then this is either an issue with the network or the sender side (Google in this case). If the connection attempt is made (but the message not transferred), then th email_logs will indicate based on the log entries why the message was not received.

If you require support, please open a ticket with the support team for this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and regards,

Martin
