How hostnames gets properly resolved to IPv4 or IPv6 address

Hi ALL,

I have a question.

How hostnames configured through "logging <host-name>" command of "syslog" feature gets properly resolved to IPv4 or IPv6 address through DNS resolver in CISCO?

Or

How "logging <host-name>" works?

Does it resolve to both IPv4 as well as IPv6 address or one of them?

If it resolves to both IPv4 & IPv6, which one is choosen? Any policy applied here?

Thanks,

Saravanan Narasimhan

Using "logging <host-name>"

Using "logging <host-name>" is purely an IPv4 process, so it's going to use only IPv4 if a hostname is used. Essentially, it's the same as "logging host <host-name>" but an older version of the command. If you want to use IPv6, you would use "logging host ipv6 <host-name>" instead.
