Hello cafe members,
While surfing the NetPro forums I got an idea for a new topic. See title.
To make one thing clear:
It is not my intension to get ratings here instead of on the regular forum.
Please do not rate any post in this thread.
When users choose not to rate, thats how it is. It happens to all of us.
The point is that I am seeing so many obviously correct answers remaining unrewarded that I thought it might be a good idea to post some of them here to at least have a good laugh about them, share your frustration or perhaps have an interesting discussion about why the invested time was not recognized.
It could also be used to track notorious non-raters.
This topic is posted here becasuse this corner tends to be avoided by the novices and especially the notorious USERS who only come to get their info and hardly bother to at least say Thnx.
I will post the first reply as an example of how I have imagined this. Have fun
This is a fairly recent one but nevertheless I dont think it's gonna happen.
Actually I was convinced that this one would be a winner. I am still a bit frustrated about it because I was really proud to have found the small note in the software configuration guide. She did say thnx allright but never bothered to rate. Maybe she was annoyed to not have discovered this herself.
You have shamed me into action. I resurrected a 4-month old post so Richard Burts would get his credit for a solution to a terminal server issue I was having.
Sometimes its just good to have a reminder.
Great one Leo.....Nice thread to start, I am sure if I dig in I would also find some very good gems up my sleeve , the thing that annoys me the most is the fact that people just turn a blind eye once they get the info and there issue is resolved, because it certainly helps anyone else searching the community for the same issue. I'll open my closet and definitely try and come up with something interesting
Perhaps fortunately- but even the questions answered in rated posts are returning time after time. I also find it amazing how many questions can be answered by a relatively simple search. Cisco really has a lot of good documents about almost all aspects of their products. Lets put it this way: The search function is certainly not used by everyone before asking a question but this creates ample opportunity for all of us to score some points.
Well here comes the ratings monster again.... :-)
Check this thread
I also think people just don't think about rating, especially new ones.
Yeah Mike, you are right but in this we are going to have fun about it over a virtual beer.
That's why we're in the cafe after all.
Cheers to that!!
BTY...I went and rated your good post....mainly so people with the same issue may run across the post...
I think the best way to help with this is when people like us come acrosss posts that are not rated we rate them if they have good information...I do that when I get a chance.
OK, well then now I know where this sudden rating comes from.
For a moment I thought it was Deb who had rated it after all but now I know it was you.
That;s good because then my point still stands. Still curious though whether it really was the solution.
Perhaps that's the most frustrating thing about it all, you can never tell if you were right unless confirmed by the OP.
There seems to be a new phenomenon going on in the tech forums: Web User.
This account makes quite a few postings and in the signature, there is each time a different name
Could it be that a group of users (apparently from the Middle East according to the names used) is using a single account?
They have gathered a few points by answering other topics but I must conclude that none of them has bothered to rate anything of which they were the OP. Some very respected members were denied their reward by this bunch.
What is going on here?
There's this guy, xxxx, in the wireless topic who keeps posting but doesn't like rating. Granted english is not his native language. My issue is not that he doesn't rate. My issue is he keeps asking question but constantly (and I mean CONSTANTLY) won't give you full information nor would he give you configuration. He'll just give you a one-line "I have this problem BLAH". Very cryptic, very incomplete. Everytime I see his post, I always tell him to post more information, post his config, post his error logs, etc.
What am I? Do you think you can see the words "Mind reader" written across my forehead or something???
So one day, he posted something, I just didn't bother (even though I know the answer). I noticed that no one helped him.
I don't mind pointing out high quality posts you feel like should be rated, but let's try and refrain from pointing out habitual non-raters. That feels more like a personal attack. I'd hate to see the user retaliate by rating all your content a 1 for no good reason .
Leo i was waiting for you to comment "What is a Facebook?" LOL
