A wink is not returned to the PBX or the router and gateway when set to wink-start on an analog E&M circuit

Core Issue

The wink-start configuration provides a single wink (quick on-hook signal to off-hook signal) to indicate the receipt of the seizure from the other Telephony side.

Verify that the signal wink is the dial supervision signaling setting on the voice port configuration; this is the default signal type for the voice port. To verify this, issue the show voice port slot-number command.

Resolution

There are two instances where wink-start can be an issue:

• If the router is providing seizure to the PBX and the calls are failing due to a wink not being received by the router from the PBX, perform these steps:
  1. Monitor the PBX channels to make sure the PBX receives the seizure on its voice ports.
  2. Make sure the PBX timers are set so that the PBX does not wait longer than 550 milliseconds (msecs) before returning a wink to the router.

     If you need to adjust this timer to a higher value, modify the parameter under the voice port configuration. This is done by issuing the timing wait-wink command in voice port configuration mode.

  3. Verify the wink duration necessary for the router to recognize the PBX wink. The default value on the router is 200 msec.

     If the PBX needs the default value to be shorter, adjust the parameter under the voice port. This is done by issuing the timing wink-duration command in voice port configuration mode.

• If the PBX is providing seizure to the router and the calls are failing due to a wink not being received by the PBX from the router, perform these steps:
  1. To make sure the router receives the seizure from the PBX, look at the output of the debug vpm signal command.
  2. Make sure the PBX timers are set so that it can wait at least 200 msecs after sending the seizure to receive the wink. If the timer needs to be adjusted, change the parameter under the voice port. This is done by issuing the timing wait-wink command in voice port configuration mode.
  3. Verify the wink duration necessary for the PBX to recognize the wink. The router sends a 200 msec wink and the value can be adjusted by changing the parameter under the voice port. This is done by issuing the timing wink-duration command in voice port configuration mode.
