Choppy or synthetic voice quality is experienced when cRTP is enabled on MLPPP, HDLC or PPPoA links

Core Issue

The voice becomes choppy every fifth or sixth call. Issuing repeated show call active voice commands shows incrementing LatePackets and GapFillWithPrediction values.

This bug is documented in Cisco bug ID CSCdz32416 and duplicated by Cisco bug ID CSCdz71295. 

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform these steps:

  1. Disable compressed Real-Time Protocol (cRTP).
  2. Upgrade to 12.2(16.1)T or later.
