Introduction

This document covers the procedure to Configure the Custom media files for Music On Hold feature in Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM).

Configuration

To add a custom Music On Hold audio source, the source file must be in PCM/WAV format. This feature is tested on Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.5

Uploading a Music On Hold Audio File:

Perform the following procedure to upload a music on hold audio file. Uploading the audio file makes it available for use as a music on hold audio source. If you use the Media Resources > Music On Hold Audio Source menu option to add a new audio source, the addition makes the newly uploaded audio file available in the MOH Audio Source File drop-down list box.

Procedure

Adding new Music On Hold audio source,

1. Add a new Music On Hold Audio Source (Media Resources | Music On Hold Audio Source).

2. Click on the Upload File button:

3. Choose one of the following options:

•If you know the path to a file that specifies an audio file, enter the path in the File field.

•If you do not know the path and file name, search for the audio file by clicking the Browse... button to the right of the File field. After you find the audio file, click the desired audio file and click Open. The path to the chosen audio file displays in the File field of the Upload File popup window.

4. To upload the specified audio file, click Upload.

5. After the file is uploaded, it will be available under the MOH Audio Stream Source File list.

Note Uploading a file uploads the file to the Cisco Unified Communications Manager server and performs audio conversions to create codec-specific audio files for MOH. Depending on the size of the original file, processing may take several minutes to complete.

The newly uploaded audio file gets added to the list of audio files in the MOH Audio File Management window.

6. Select an available MOH Audio Stream Number.

7. Select the newly uploaded media file under MOH Audio Source File.

8. Depending on the media type, it may be appropriate to play the file continuously. If this is the case, check the box Play continuously.

9. If this media file is to be used with multicast streams check Allow Multi-casting.

10. Click on Save.

  1. Choose the audio file you want to use for your Music On Hold. Make sure it's in a compatible format, such as MP3, WAV, or OGG.

  2. Log in to your phone system's administrator portal or dashboard. The steps to access this portal may vary depending on the type of phone system you're using.

  3. Look for the Music On Hold settings or options in the portal.

  4. Upload the audio file to the Music On Hold settings. This step may involve selecting the file from your computer or specifying a URL where the file can be accessed.

  5. Save the changes to the Music On Hold settings.

  6. Test the Music On Hold feature by placing a test call to your phone system and putting the call on hold.
