DC Directory: CallManager is not available on the IP SoftPhone version 1.3.3

Core Issue

The corporate directory is not available for Cisco IP SoftPhone version 1.3.3 users, but it is available for all IP phone users currently running Cisco CallManager version 3.3. Other issues include not being able to add users to the directory and the directory service page not allowing users to log in.

Logs have this error message:

12:59:22.477 : ERROR :  : LdapDirectorySource-546 : read : exception [LDAP: error code 32 - No such object]

These are the reasons for encountering this issue:

  • The authentication to the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server fails if the privileged users do not have anonymous rights.
  • Cisco CallManager versions earlier than 3.1 do not authenticate against the LDAP server and with Cisco CallManager version 3.1.1 and later, it is necessary to authenticate.


To resolve this issue, perform these steps:

  1. Uninstall and re-install the Data Connection (DC) Directory and configure the Cisco IP SoftPhone with basic settings.
  2. Enable the browse permissions to the anonymous users.

To configure the directory settings, perform these steps:

  1. Display name: Enter a name for the LDAP directory: SoftPhone-CM.
  2. Server name: Enter the name for the LDAP server: IP Address of the Cisco CallManager.
  3. Port number: Enter the port number used by the directory: 8404.
  4. Account name: Enter the directory administrator Distinguished Name (DN): cn=directory manager,
  5. Password: Enter the directory administrator password.
  6. Search base: Enter the base or root of the directory service in which to search for names: ou=users,

Now the DC Directory should work fine on the Cisco IP SoftPhone version.
