During the attempt to access the Cisco Unity SA webpage, the "Unrecognized error hr=0x8007042C (The dependency service or group failed to start.\x0D\x0A)" error message appears

Core Issue

On a Cisco Unity server, the Unrecognized error hr=0x8007042C (The dependency service or group failed to start.\x0D\x0A) error message appears when an attempt is made to open the System Administration (SA) webpage.

The Avdsad and Avglobalcatalog and Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ) service does not start.

Resolution

In order to resolve this, remove MSMQ manually and reinstall MSMQ.

In order to remove MSMQ manually, complete these steps:

  1. Refer to How To Manually Remove Message Queuing 2.0 from Microsoft Windows 2000 for detailed instructions. It is necessary to boot Cisco Unity in Safe mode in order to perform this.

  2. Remove any MSMQ hotfixes that are installed.

  3. Restart the computer in normal mode.

In order to reinstall MSMQ, complete these steps:

  1. From the Microsoft Windows Start menu, choose Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

  2. Choose Add/Remove Windows Components.

  3. In the Windows Components dialog box, check the Message Queuing Services box. Do not change any other items.

  4. Click Next.

  5. In the Message Queuing Type dialog box, click Next. Do not change any items.

  6. If the Message Queuing Server dialog box appears, choose Message Queuing Will Not Access a Directory Service, and click Next.

  7. If the Windows NT 4.0 Message Queuing Clients dialog box appears, choose No, Do Not Change the Permissions, and click Next.

  8. When prompted, insert the Windows 2000 Server disc in the CD-ROM drive, and click OK. If the Cisco Unity server was purchased from Cisco, the disc is labeled Cisco Unity System Disc.

  9. In the Completing the Windows Components Wizard dialog box, click Finish.
