How to start an Oracle instance

Core Issue

The user receives an ORA 01034: ORACLE not available message when starting an Oracle instance.


To resolve this issue, perform these steps:

  1. Log in as Oracle Administrator.

  2. Make sure that ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, and PATH are set.

  3. Log into the server manager by issuing the $svrmgrl SVRMGR> command.

  4. Issue the SVRMGR>connect internal command.

  5. Issue the SVRMGR>startup ORACLE command to start the Oracle instance.
