Core Issue

The affected IP phones are registered to Cisco CallManager through a Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) Gateway connected to the Avaya PBX with an E1 QSIG trunk.

The debug isdn q931 command output shows:

*Jul 27 04:42:21.874: ISDN Se0/0/1:15 Q931: TX -> SETUP pd = 8 callref = 0x0009 Sending Complete Bearer Capability i = 0x8090A3 Standard = CCITT Transfer Capability = Speech Transfer Mode = Circuit Transfer Rate = 64 kbit/s Channel ID i = 0xA9839F Exclusive, Channel 31 Facility i = 0x9FAA06800100820100A115020101020100800D4A656E6E79205368657277696E Calling Party Number i = 0x2181, '6616' Plan:ISDN, Type:National Called Party Number i = 0xA1, '6944' Plan:ISDN, Type:National

The Avaya PBX phone is J3SI. The configuration on the PBX must be accurate in order for the PBX to work in the network or user mode when connected to a Cisco router. On the PBX, under the DS1 page configuration screen, there are two parameters that must be accurately configured. The first parameter is the CONNECT parameter. This value must be set to PBX . Only when this value is set to PBX is there the option to change the value of the INTERFACE parameter.

If the value is anything other than PBX, the INTERFACE parameter does not show up. Change the INTERFACE parameter to either Network or User, as required to determine if the PBX provides the clock or takes the clock.

Resolution

The Avaya PBX must have these parameters configured on DS1 page in order to work properly:

CONNECT: PBX
INTERFACE: Network/User

Refer to Cisco Unified CallManager 4.1-PBX Interoperability: Avaya Definity G3 MV1.3 PBX with 3745 T1 QSIG as a MGCP Gateway for more information.
